Artifact C2 — Theory-to-Practice application

This entry contains a paper written for SDAD 5750: Best Practices, following a class visit to Pacific Lutheran University. During that visit, two classmates and I met with Dean of Students Dr. Eva Frey and Counseling Center Director Elizabeth Barton to discuss the school’s transition back to in-person operation following the remote isolation period of the COVID-19 pandemic. Both noted observed issues around students transition to a peer social environment following home isolation, and a seeming increase in the severity of mental illness. My paper discusses promising practices at PLU and proposes a social acclimation program called “MeetLute.”

Learning Outcomes in this entry include…

  • 1: Understanding the foundations and emerging nature of the Student Affairs profession and higher education.

  • 2: Understanding students and student issues.

  • 5: Adapting student services to specific environments and cultures.
